Maintaining and evolving a massive monolithic codebase in the fintech industry presents unique challenges, from slow builds to technical debt and onboarding new developers, as well as handling regulatory complexities and ensuring secure, real-time transactions. This talk will provide a CTO’s perspective on navigating and improving large-scale monoliths without resorting to full rewrites. Learn what strategies work best for managing complexity and improving performance, and keeping up with industry standards, while avoiding pitfalls that could compromise scalability and security.

Bio:

Mike Tria is the Chief Technology Officer at Gusto, where he builds and scales the people platform, enabling over 400,000 small- and medium-sized businesses nationwide to pay, insure, and provide benefits for their teams. Before joining Gusto, Mike was the Head of Global Engineering at Atlassian, where he scaled the platform team from less than 100 engineers to thousands worldwide. The engineering teams he led ran the underpinnings of Atlassian’s cloud products, including JIRA, which is used by millions of businesses of all sizes.
